Have you ever noticed how quickly the world's ideas about parenting has so many voices?
One day it's "Let children find their own truth." The next day it's "Never correct them because it may hurt their self-esteem." Parents are constantly surrounded by voices telling them how to raise their children. Social media, television, influencers, and even well-meaning friends all compete for our attention.
The question every Christian parent must ask is this:
Who is shaping my thinking?
Romans 12:2 reminds us that God never intended for His people to simply follow the culture around them. Instead, He calls us to think differently because we belong to Him.

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
One of the most profound truths in Romans 12:2 is that Paul's first instruction is not transform your children but be transformed. The transformation of a family begins with the transformation of its parents. As your mindset is continually renewed by God's Word, your parenting naturally becomes less conformed to the world and more conformed to the character of Christ.

Ways culture can hinder parenting:
Can cause you and your child to chase acceptance instead of character.
Allow screen time to shape and influence you and your family.
Claps for looks, grades, and followers and neglect quality character.
Following new cultural trends for parenting.
Ways to counterculture:
Value your character over acceptance.
Guard and guide the influences that shape you and your child.
Demonstrate integrity and quality behavior. Help your child see the value of these qualities over looks, likes, grades, and followers.
Show them the value of God’s Word and godly living. Follow Christ instead of the crowd.
Let your parenting decisions become rooted in eternal truth instead of temporary trends.

Children notice what parents consistently value. When they see humility, repentance, prayer, forgiveness, and obedience to Christ modeled at home, they learn the importance of a godly lifestyle. You should be your child’s greatest “influencer.”

Heavenly Father,
Renew my mind through Your Word so I do not simply follow the patterns of this world. Give me wisdom to raise my children according to Your truth rather than cultural trends. Help me model humility, integrity, faith, courage, and obedience in my own life. Let my home become a place where Your presence is welcomed, Your Word is honored, and Your love is evident every day.
